Job Description
The Legal Specialist (Chinese Speaking) is responsible for providing legal support and ensuring compliance with Cambodian laws and regulations for the company’s engineering and construction operations. The role involves contract management, regulatory compliance, risk control, and acting as a legal liaison between local operations and Chinese management.
Key Responsibilities
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts including construction contracts, EPC agreements, subcontractor agreements, supplier contracts, and service agreements
• Ensure company compliance with Cambodian laws and regulations related to construction, environmental protection, labor, and corporate governance
• Provide legal advice on project execution, claims, variations, disputes, and risk mitigation
• Support tender processes by reviewing legal terms and conditions
Manage and maintain company legal documents, licenses, permits, and statutory filings
• Coordinate with external lawyers, notaries, government authorities, and regulatory bodies
• Assist in handling legal disputes, claims, arbitration, and litigation when required
• Review and advise on employment contracts, internal policies, and labor law compliance
• Translate and explain legal documents and matters between Chinese management and local teams
• Monitor legal and regulatory changes and advise management on potential impacts
• Support management in corporate matters such as company registration, amendments, and compliance reporting
• Perform other legal-related duties as assigned by management
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Law or a related legal field
Minimum 3–5 years of legal experience, preferably in engineering, construction, or project-based companies
• Strong knowledge of Cambodian laws, particularly construction law, contract law, labor law, and environmental regulations
• Fluent in Chinese (Mandarin) for written and verbal communication; English is required; Khmer is an advantage
• Experience working with Chinese-invested companies or reporting to Chinese management is highly preferred
• Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and legal analysis skills
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple matters under pressure
